urban'S BAND
firs Satellite was a subordinate stallion running with the Double Band of Red Face and Singlefoot for many years, even acting as bodyguard for the older, smaller Singlefoot. Over the years he worked at stealing some of the mares, but often gave up the mares to maintain his place with the rest of the band. Finally in the spring of 2012, he took Lightning, Sweetheart, and Crow from Singlefoot. These mares are all black and white, illustrating his color preference. He can still be found near Red Face but he has never established the bond with Red Face that Singlefoot had. They usually range from Talkington to Lindbo Flats. Satellite is distinguished by the unique bulge on his chest. He briefly lost his band to Coal in the summer of 2017 but won them back on 8-9-17.
2019 has brought both sorrow and happiness.
In late February, our beloved Sweetheart went missing. She was presumed deceased and her body found in May.
April brought three new births to the band. Lightning gave birth to a colt, Aimes (adopted in summer 2019) and Minnesota to filly, Almanac. Sadly, Crow also gave birth to a precious little colt, Corbin, a lethal white.
2020 brought Little Bear ( filly) and sadly Patches who died shortly after birth.
Spring of 2021 saw a change to the band when Urban 2014 stallion who had been trying hard for mares for months, beat Satellite and ran him out of the band. After seeing Urban's condition, we were worried but never gave up hope on Satellite. And low and behold on March 19th, Marylu spotted the proud old warrior in good condition!
Spring brought the blessing of little Calamity Jane born to Minnesota and surrounded by bison, on the top of a remote hill and at the time of the Medora fire!
In the spring of 2022, Urban became a first time presumed sire, with the birth of gorgeous little filly Phoenix born to mama Crow, little Felicity joined the family just a few days later by Minnesota in the midst of a snowstorm. Sadly, Almanac foaled her first- a filly named Lani (heavenly) but tragically little Lani disappeared after a few days and her body was not found. And in August 2022, Minnesota's filly, Felicity also disappeared.
