REMEMBERING SWEETHEART
Sweetheart was one of the best known mares in the park. Everyone who ever saw her remembered her striking black and white frame overo coat. With the perfect heart at her flank they immediately knew why she would be called Sweetheart. Actually a lady from Mandan who frequently rode and hiked in the park first called her Sweetheart; how could we call her anything else? Out of a gray mare foaled in 1998, Sweetheart came out of Lindbo Blue’s band and it is thought he was her sire. She was always a sweet mare, easy for the others in her band to live with, and a good mama to her foals. She had eight foals that we know of, though it is possible she could have produced lethal white foals that were not seen before they died. She spent most of her life with Singlefoot until Satellite stole her in the spring of 2014, but even her 2013 colt was sired by Satellite. She raised some adorable offspring including 2005 Spotted Blue (who still lives in the park), Oreo, Golva, Courage, Zane, Rocky Mountain, Wisconsin, and Aphrodite. She lived a good life, wild and free and was a park favorite of many, many people. Rest in peace sweet gal, you will never be forgotten. |
