REMEMBERING samoa
Samoa was a sweet surprise presented to the herd by Pale Lady & Thundercloud on May 31st, 2016. The theme that year was states but he was named after a territory, as we had more foals then expected that year. On June 14th, precious baby Samoa died around 2:30 of unknown causes. Marylu was there and suspected that sweet little Samoa died because of an infected umbilicus. This is an unfortunate twist of nature not caused by any influence or treatment by man. He was feeling fine just a days before his death, so at least he did not suffer for long. A NPS Veterinarian was consulted and confirmed, "So sorry to hear about Samoa. An infected umbilicus is a quick way to get peritonitis which horses do not tolerate well. My guess is this was the cause of death given no other apparent injuries or predation." He was not alone when he passed and our heart breaks for his family and the legacy that was lost. Run free little one.💔 |
