REMEMBERING gray ghost
Gray Ghost. 💔 Born in 2002, Gray Ghost was popular with visitors because of his long wavy mane and tail. He had various nicknames, one of them being "Fabio." I have never seen a stallion as white as he was and with the mane and tail he had, though his grandsire on both sides was Painted Canyon, who looked similar. He carved out his territory south of the south loop between Little Sorrel on the east and Gary on the west. He was a small stallion and often thin in his later years. After failing for months, he lost most of his band to the young stallion Ranger. However, mare Twister, pregnant with his last offspring, Atlas, stayed at his side until finally, for her sake, Gray Ghost left them with Ranger and returned to his birth place to die. One of the NDBH tech found his shortly after he died, as his body was untouched by animal and elements. It may be anthropomorphizing but our tech sang him a lullaby and told him how much he was loved and how much he will be missed. She watched as Yoakum was there stood guard, so it was a comfort that he had a friend near him as he passed. We rest in peace knowing that he won't suffer through the winter. We like to think of Gray Ghost running free in the eternal fields with Atlas by his side. 💔 |
