REMEMBERING GINGER
It saddens us to share that Ginger has passed due to suspected foaling complications and is running with the heavenly herd.
Her foal did not survive and as a result, was not named. Ginger was a sweet mare born in 2005 out of Tanker by Little Sorrel. She was one of the original Spice Girls: Sugar, Cinnamon, Ginger and Spice, all daughters of Little Sorrel and the only spice girl not sold in 2009 because she was already four years old. Ginger was first taken as a two year old by the handsome Gray Ghost. Though it was thought that Ginger’s first foal, Spice, may have been from Little Sorrel, her second, Whiskey, was definitely Gray Ghost’s. After only two years with Gray Ghost, there was another mix-up. The spring of 2011 when I was training in the new CSU tech. we discovered a confusing mix-up of all red roan mares. Ginger, who had been with Gray Ghost, was now with Mystery and Shale, who had been with Mystery, was now with Gray Ghost. Even Tanker wound up with Gray Ghost for a time before making her way back to Little Sorrel. We only figured out the switches by confirming each mare in each band. Mystery became Ginger’s constant companion and her next two foals were by him. She spent the rest of her life by his side until she died early in 2020 trying to give birth another of his foals. She will be remembered as a quiet, sweet, beautiful mare. She gave birth to Spice, Whiskey ( still in the park), Upham and Soldier. This beautiful sweet mare will always live in our hearts, in our memories and her legacy at the park. Rest in peace sweet girl. 💔 |
