HALF MOON'S BAND
Half Moon acquired most of his mares by taking them from a park legend, Little Sorrel, who maintained one of the largest bands in the park, but was getting more and more stiff and slow in his movements. As a result he lost most of his harem to Half Moon in 2015 and 2016.
A fierce band stallion, Half Moon has worked hard to maintain a large harem. His most determined usurper is bachelor Guardian. Guardian has been successful in wooing some of the mares, as seen by the number of Guardian babies that came out of the park in the last few years.
2019 has brought two new colts to the band, Nanook ( The first foal of 2019, who perished due to harsh weather.) and Aloe. As well as two changes. Sadly, harem mare Nordie disappeared during the winter of 2019 and presumed deceased.
In the spring, Freckles was stolen by Guardian remaining with him all summer long until she returned to the band by October. Until being stolen again the spring of 2020.
Spring of 2020 brought two new additions Beaver and Berryhill ( both fillies) and Bete ( a tiny colt) lost to Rosie.
Half Moon has chosen the area from the Old Entrance to Painted Canyon Overlook for his territory. One can often see the band from the interstate.
As of October 18th, 2020, Freckles has gone back to Guardian.
Papoose joined in late spring of 2021.
Spring of 2022, brought to delightful surprises, Mare Sumac foaled for the first time since 2015, with the birth of little filly- Nadia (hope). A few days later, sweet Serendipity joined the herd born to mama Papoose and presumed sire Half Moon. Then, not to be left out, Chance arrived quickly after to Punkin!
In April 2023, Sumac foaled little Eve.
Later that spring, Aloe was told he was old enough to leave the band and he joined the bachelors.
